Basic considerations about wine temperature
Have you ever wondered why the same wine tastes different? As strange as it may seem, this occurrence is more common than you think. One of the main reasons why consumers do not enjoy wine is precisely because it is served at the wrong temperature.
So, at what temperature is each wine served? To answer that question, it may be necessary to set out a number of basic considerations about wine storage temperature:
Room temperature
The concept of this term is usually erroneous, since in the past some beverages used to be kept at domestic temperatures at a time when buildings did not have a thermal capacity like those of today, so temperatures were much colder.
Cooling time
The cooling time of the bottle must be well calculated, without exceeding it. Often the mistake is made of putting the bottles in a freezer a few hours before consumption. Ideally, the bottle should be placed in an ice bucket filled with water and ice just before consumption.
Avoid using a refrigerator or freezer
We all love a good fresh wine, but the sudden change in temperature can spoil the product, losing the qualities of the product.
The ideal temperature for wine
Below is a list of the ideal temperatures for each type of wine, ordered from the lowest to the highest. You should know that there is no exact temperature, so having a few degrees more or less will not be a serious problem.
# Sparkling wines: Between 5 ºC and 10 ºC. These are the wines that are served colder to enhance the sensation of freshness of the bubbles and their sweetness.
# White wines (young): Between 6 ºC and 10 ºC. White wines stand out for their acid or sweet character, so it is highly recommended that they be served chilled.
# Rosé wines: Between 6 ºC and 10 ºC. Rosé wines are similar to young white wines, so it is ideal to keep them at low temperatures.
# Sweet wines: Between 6 ºC and 12 ºC. Sweet wines are characterized by their sugar content, so they should also follow the same line as the previous ones.
# White wines (crianza): Between 10 ºC and 12 ºC. The temperature of barrel-aged wines is already beginning to be distinguished; they are a few degrees higher than the others.
# Red wines (young): Between 10 ºC and 16 ºC. The minimum temperature for red wines is 10 ºC as long as they are not crianza or reserva wines.
# Red wines (crianza): Between 14 ºC and 18 ºC. Crianza red wines need a higher temperature to develop their full aroma.
# Red wines (reserva or gran reserva): Between 16 ºC and 18 ºC. Like crianza red wines, reserva or gran reserva wines need higher temperatures to develop their full flavor.
