Discover the Ribera del Duero wine region
The origins of viticulture in La Rioja date back to Roman times when the first grape varieties and cultivation techniques were introduced to the region. However, it was during the Middle Ages that Rioja wine began to gain renown, thanks to the work of monks who tended the vineyards of monasteries and abbeys.
For centuries, the region flourished as a viticultural center, but it was in the 19th century that La Rioja experienced a true oenological revolution. The phylloxera plague that ravaged the vineyards of France led many French winemakers to seek refuge in La Rioja, bringing with them new winemaking techniques and grape varieties such as Tempranillo, which would become the emblem of the region.
Over time, La Rioja emerged as one of Spain’s premier wine regions, gaining international recognition for the quality and variety of its wines. In 1925, the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) Rioja was established, the first in Spain and one of the most prestigious in the world, guaranteeing the excellence and authenticity of wines produced in the region.
Today, La Rioja is a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts, who flock to explore its picturesque vineyards, visit its historic wineries, and taste its exquisite wines. Each bottle of Rioja wine is more than a beverage; it is the result of centuries of tradition, innovation, and passion, encapsulating the rich vinicultural history of this extraordinary region.
What do you do on a private winery tour from Bilbao or San Sebastian?

Enric coordinated a last minute, 2 winery tour of Albet i Noya and Can Bas for four. He provided excellent information on the history of the region, background on the winemakers and vineyards as well as details of each of the wines and cavas we tasted. My wife and I scheduled to visit three wineries in the Priorat wine region. We knew nothing about this area, but since it is better known for red wines (our preference), it seemed like the best place to go. Enric picked us up at our Barcelona apartment in his very nice and clean car. He spoke to us about the area during the trip there. After a quick stop at a very nice bakery, we arrived in the old medieval town of Porrera (population 470). The town was fabulous, and all three wineries were there. We proceeded first to a rustic (here, a good word) family-owned winery that was established in 1780, and tasted several wonderful wines. The next stop was similar, but we tasted the wines atop a mountain in the winery’s vineyards. Again, excellent wines! Our final destination was a very modern winery for lunch and, of course, more wines. It should be noted that while we purchased wines from all of the wineries, we never felt pressured to do so. Moreover, Enric will handle all of the shipping back to the U.S., once the local temperatures cool. It should also be noted that on the way back to Barcelona, Enric stated that many of his clients sleep on the way back, which I did. I am told my wife and he continued to talk wines during the return trip.Overall, maybe the best winery tour we have ever had, and we have had many! Thanks Enric!

We were first met by Emma, a sommelier who is not only extremely knowledgeable about the wine in the region, but has an amazing personality that makes the tour even more special. Emma was so great that we booked a separate tour with her later in the week.We then visited three different vineyards -- each unique in their approach to winemaking. The vineyards selected highlight the range of the excellent wine in the region. The visits feel very exclusive and you have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the winemaking process. The lunch at the last vineyard was high-quality and exactly what we needed to cap off a really special day -- definitely a highlight of our trip to Barcelona.

I booked a private tour with Enric for myself and my two cousins. We had the most excellent day with Enric. He brought us to some amazing wineries, guided us through tastings and was just the most pleasant, professional, friendly, knowledgeable guy to spend the day with. Enric even picked up a bottle of wine that was oxidised that we were trying, let them know so we could properly taste the wines. He’s clearly respected among the vignerons. We could not have asked for a better tour and I would highly recommend taking a tour with Taca de Vi.

We have the most amazing wine tasting tour thanks to Xavi!!Xavi pick us up at our hotel right on time with a huge smile. He grew up there so was full of information about the area, culture as well as wine and the wine region. We decided to visit two wineries one including lunch. Our first experience was seeing the discouragement of champagne in person. What a treat! I really enjoyed it. Great wine with a personal tour from someone working at each winery.We felt like we were in the best hands, and with the best company. Enric took us around three wineries all of which were unique in their own way. We stopped on the way to the wineries at a local bakery for breakfast and had lunch at one of the wineries. Superb Penedes wine tour with Enric. He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of Spanish wines and engaging. The three wineries we visited all offered a broad selection of white, red and cava, including some grapes that are a bit unusual but delicious. Our hosts at each of the wineries were enthusiastic and welcoming. The so-called "light lunch" at the last winery was substantial and delicious. Highly recommended.
