Priorat it is a county located 1:30h southern Barcelona, in the Tarragona province. The region is divided in 2 Denominació d’Origen (wine region appellation): Priorat and Montsant.
It is famous for its red wines made out of Grenache and Carignane, full of complexity, smooth tanins, silky texture and earthy flavour. They also produce very interesting whites out of White Grenache and Macabeu, but less than 10% of the total.
The landscape is just amazing. Unique. Mountains and valleys full of vineyards, olive trees, almond trees and little pintoresc villages. The old vineyards are planted in terraces due to the steep slopes of the mountains so all works must be done by hand.
Two of the keys of their success are the licorella soil (slate) and the old vines (some of them over 100 years old), which gives special nuances and unique falvour.
These facts make Priorat wines some of the most renowned in the world, so many people comes from all over to discover their secrets.
There are no big wineries with large productions. Most of the cellars are family owned, producing just few thousands bottles and they are anxious to show their tradition to foreign visitors.
So contact us for our wine tour Priorat and we’ll show you the beauty of this region.
