Last May in TacaDeVi we organized one of our 4WD car tours through the vineyards of the Penedès. All our tours include a pick-up at the hotel and a visit to two wineries, as well as a tasting and lunch before returning to Barcelona.
Penedès wines
The Penedès region is a few kilometres from the city of Barcelona and offers a typical Mediterranean climate with temperate winters and hot, dry summers. The Penedès area is known for producing high quality white wines. The xarel-lo grape is the variety par excellence of this area and is cultivated in addition to the Penedès, in several areas of Spain (although less frequently). In other areas the xarel-lo grape is known as cartoixa, pansa blanca or pansal. The xarel-lo is one of the grapes used to produce the world-famous cava, the Catalan sparkling wine par excellence. In the Penedès there are many cava producers with years of experience behind them in the preparation of this sparkling wine with methods and techniques that are specific to each of them.
Guided 4×4 route for US customers
A group of friends from the USA who were visiting Barcelona contacted TacaDeVi so that we would organize one of our all-terrain car routes through the Penedès. As with all our routes, we picked them up at their Barcelona city hotel and guided them throughout the day, from the visit of the two wineries to the end of the route with a meal in a local restaurant and transportation back to the hotel in Barcelona city.

Visiting Domini Can Bas
The name Can Bas has been associated with wine production since 1668, making it one of the most historic wineries in the entire Penedès region. In Can Bas we toured its vineyards in two all terrain vehicles, while the owners explained to us the peculiarities of its working method and the history of a brand that has been producing wine labelled with its name for 350 years.
Visit to Parés Baltà
The second visit was to the Parés Baltà winery, experts in organic and biodynamic wine production. Wine producers since 1790, since the beginning of 2000 they specialized in the ecological production of wines: not using pesticides but biological control by insects, organic fertilizers from sheep grazing, efficient pollination by bees … Before ending the visit there was a tasting of some of their organically produced wines.

Lunch at local restaurant
At the end of the day we accompanied the guests to a local restaurant to taste some typical dishes of the regional cuisine of this area of Catalonia and the Mediterranean.
